1939 April in Mt Angel

​Apr. 30, 1939 , Sun- Nice weather: Mrs Pfaff and her mother and father and the Marsh’s came in here in two cars about 1 p.m.. Bob Hart drove in a big Pontiac car with Dad Hart and Mother Hart about 2:30 p.m. Bob and Muriel were here all day and had a nice is it we showed Bob Hart and the folks the movies this evening.

Apr 29, Sat.- Cloudy and cold chilly weatherL Bob and I went to the store for some groceries. Just as we started to leave the Colton store some of the wiring in Bob’s Ford got on fire and burned up some of the wire, we had to have new wires put in art Stahlnecker’s.

Apr 28, Fri.- Nice weather: Pulled over a log this morning and we cut it up by 3 p.m. Pulled over another log that was 23 inches in diameter and 23 feet long. Had to put a new brush on the generation on the side next to the wall.

Apr 27, Thu.- Nice weather: Bob and I pulled over another log and cut most of it up. Had to refile the main learning on the water wheel with grease today. Mr. Bates and the young Mrs. Potts were here to Irene awhile.

Apr 26, Wed.- Nice weather: Bob and I pulled two logs across today and cut most of them up into wood. Irene washed.

Apr 25th, Tue.- Cloudy; Lindstrom helped me cut a couple of logs in two across the creek. We cut up a small maple log this afternoon.

Apr 24, Mon.- Cloudy and rain nearly all day. Lindstrom and I went to Mt. Angel and had Harris fix up our road papers. We then took one of the notices to Oregon city and Posted it at the Court House and posted 3 other notices on Road num 1177 between mail boxes and Potts place. Bob worked for Potts today.

Apr 23, Sun - Cloudy and cool: we had a very nice rain during the night. Bob and Jean went down to Potts after dinner. About 3 pm. Stays with Muriel, Dean and Francis came. The kids went down Ilene came back with them. They all stayed here for supper.

Apr 22, Sat- Nice cloudy weather all day. Bob and I finished cutting up lower end of maple log. Bob and Jean went to the mail boxes and I piled up the wood. We pulled over another small sized maple log.

Apr 21, Fri- Cloudy weather this morning but no rain. Bob and I pulled over another maple log this morning and cut it up. 

Apr 20, Thu- Bob and I tried to start the car but it would not go, so we took the battery out of Bob car and the car worked alright. We went to Mollalla and got the Bond signed up with Mr. Danielson and took it to a notary. This afternoon we pulled over a maple with the donkey and cut it up.

Apr 19th Wed- Nice weather: We had a partial eclipse of he sun about 8 to 9 a.m. Bob and I cut a maple log in two and intended to pull it across the creek but the donkey would not run. Mr. Knaggs and mr Reed were here awhile. Bill Dickson also came by.

Apr 18th, Tues- Nice weather: but hot. Bob and I went to Oregon City and got Lindstrom groceries. We cut up a little wood and tried to cut a maple cuts.

Apr 17, Mon.- Nice weather but hot. Bob and I went to Colton and got some groceries from Danielsons.


Apr 16, Sun.- Very nice weather: Irene, Jean and I stayed around home all day. Roy Gardner brought Bob home about 3:30 this afternoon.

Apr 15th, Sat.- Nice weather: Bob and I went after the buttermilk to Johnsons. Jean had a sort of little birthday company as Verna, Evangeline Marx and the Lindstrom kids were here. Gardner came after Bob and they went out about 4 p.m. I took the marx girls to the mail boxes in Bob’s Ford. Mr. Marx met the girls there. Took a treatment on Potts electric heater. This evening and he gave us a pail of fresh milk.

April 14th, Fri- Cloudy during the morning but very nice weather from noon on. I went after the buttermilk but the truck did not bring it out today.

Apr 13th Thu.- Cloudy weather: Bob and I took buttermilk jugs to Johnsons. We stopped at Potts and Alberts new Rogers Incubator came in on a factory truck. This afternoon Bob and I pulled over a log out of the creek. Then we fixed the generator and some wiring on Bobs car.

Apr 12. Wed- Cloudy and a few light showers of rain. Went down to Potts place and held my hand over their electric heater for awhile.

Apr 11, Tue.- Cloudy and a little windy. Bob took me to Silverton and I had Dr. Keinsorge X-ray my left hand but he found no broken bones. We came back via Knaggs and got some milk and eggs.

Apr 10, Mon.- Nice weather: bob and I started to pull over a log with the donkey and it caught and pulled anchor cables out of line. This afternoon I caught my left hand in a twist anchor cable and sprained it pretty bad.

Apr 9th- Sun.- Nice weather: Bob took Ilene and Downd (illegible) and they went with Chuck to the coast. We stayed home all day and had no company. 

Apr 8 Sat - Cloudy weather: Bob and I cut wood all morning. This afternoon Irene and Jean placed rocks in the front year and painted them white. I cut brush in front year and burned it up. Irene also cleaned up the ceda scraps in front of bunk house. bob and Jean went to Potts.

Apr 7, Fri- Nice weather: Bob and I slapped brush and burnt it up in the garden all day. Also went to Colton and Bob got a few groceries.

Apr 6- Thu- Nice weather. Bob and I cut brush in the garden all day. Had to clean out no. 3 nozzle this afternoon as a small stick had caught in it. Also caught and little eel by the water wheel. Ilene Potts and Miss Wilson stopped in here this evening.


Apr 5 - Wed - Nice weather: Bob and I slashed brush in the garden all morning. This afternoon we burnt ferns around back of the house.

Apr 4 Tuesday- Nice weather: Bob and I slashed brush and trees all day out of our garden.

April 3rd Cloudy : Few light showers . Bob and I cleaned out the brush out of the creek and burned it up. I worked on our old radio awhile and got it to play a little better.

Apr 2, Sun.- Very nice weather: We had an early dinner and Irene, Jean, and I went up to our old cabin. When we got back, Chuck, Ambrose, Irene and Ina were here. Also Marx  visited awhile with Bob, but left before we got home. This evening Mrs. Potts and her two relatives from Utah came up and got Bob to go down to their place to spend the evening with their company.

April 1, 1939 Saturday - Nice weather: Lindstrom and I went to OregonCity to turn in our road notices but the county advised us we were to late for a May presentation to the court. Bob and I cleared up Garden growing all afternoon.
