As told by Jean Gillette Grant later in life, Joe Lauby was her best friend growing up and her brother was friends with Tony Lauby all were the same age. Frank is listed as a Taxi driver for a cab company and family lives at 724 E 26th street in Kearney Nebraska. His son Robert was listed as 10 months old and born in Chicago Illinois in February of 1919. Census was taken in
The Gillette's are listed approximately in the bottom fourth of the page. Ernest as head of household was age 46 and wife Emma was 47. Frank had listed the initial D as middle name, but in other documents his middle name is White (his mother's maiden name) and the age 13. However, Frank was born August 5, 1895. That would have made him 14 at the time of the census in April of 1910.
Ernest and Emma were both born in Pennsylvania as were their parents, while Frank was born in Missouri. They were living in Kearney Nebraska at the time of the Census. The Gillette's had been married 19 years and together had only the one child. Ernest worked as a janitor at the court house.. It is not located where the 2015 road identified as Gillette now named. In picture below there is a small purple icon place approximately where the S Engstrom Road is close to Mill Creek. The land was two 40 acre parcels that encompassed both a portion of Engstrom road and to the south the north-heading spur road off of Schieffer and Jackson Creek Road. They had building my cousin remembers visiting at top of hill to south and then rebuilt another building to north on ground closer to Mill Creek. The bottom map is higher view that shows site in relation to larger geographic area.
Jean Eloise Gillette portrait at approximately age 8. In honor of my mother on Mother's Day.5/10/2015 This photo was taken as a studio portrait and then colorized. Joyce believes the photo was sent to her Grandmother Daisy Eloise "Bessie" Mallory Hart. I decided to post this photo today on Mother's Day 2015 to honor my lovely mother Jean Eloise Gillette Grant. She was always so kind and a calm person A true loving and supportive person.
This photo passed to her grandmother ended up in a cousin's photo box that was just about ready to be tossed as she was downsizing and cleaning her house Neither my sister nor I had ever seen this photo. It was wonderful that we were able to retrieve it. These entries are from the family diaries or calendar of Irene Hart Gillette and Frank White Gillette. Irene and Frank were the parents of Jean Eloise Gillette Grant. The notebooks date first from Frank's entries in 1935 to Franks final entry weeks before he died in September of 1977.
