Aug 31,1935  Sat- Worked in office all day. Looked at Schmidt and Fishers Prunes at noon. Irene and bessie canned more peaches today.

Aug 30, Fri- nice weather worked in office all day. Mr White and daughter came in and pooled 75 tons prunes with us. Mr. Rubens also called.

Aug 29, Thu- nice weather; was out to Scotts Mills today and also went to St. Louis.

Aug 28, Wed- worked in office most of the day. Not much doing today.

Aug 27,Tue- worked in office all day.

Aug 26, Mon-nice weather; worked around office all day.

Aug 25, Sun- nice weather; We took Elmer Hart up to Vancouver and best came home with us in evening.

Aug 24, Sat- hot weather; Elmer got a letter from his father with money for his car fare.

Aug 23, Fri- nice weather; worked in office. Painted car second coat of paint this evening.

Aug 22, Thu- nice weather; worked around office all day.

Aug 21, Wed- Took Ford in cannery and had to have wrecker lift car onto porch. We washed the car and Bob and I painted it.

Aug 20- Tue- Worked in office all day.

Aug 19, Mon- Cloudy in a.m.; worked in office all day. Wampach, Zellman and I called on Weimacht about labeling machine this evening.

Aug 18, Sun- cloudy and little rain; Elmer, Bob and I went up to homestead and moved the stove bed and stand around. Left the stove with Nails.

Aug 17, Sat- cool water; Violet and Willard left this morning for Vancouver and then back to Nebraska. We went to Silverton in evening.

Aug 16, Fri- nice weather; Willard and violet went up to homestead with the kids and picked huckleberry vines.

Aug 15, Thu- nice weather; worked in office until noon. elmer, Bob and Chuck and I went to Vancouver and got Dad Harts trailer. Willard and Violet came back with us.

Aug 14, Wed- Worked in office all day. Canned a few blackberries.

Aug 13, Tue - nice weather; worked in office all day. Weimacht was in while I was at blacksmith shop. Elmer and I visited W.J. Neuns.

Aug 12, Mon- hot weather; worked in office all day and had directors meeting in evening.

Aug 11, Sun- hot weather’ Stayed around the house all day except taking Jean swimming in the evening.

Aug 10, Sat hot weather; worked in office. canned blackberries went to Colton looked over house and got my log scales.

Aug 9, Fri- worked in office all day.

Aug 8, Thu- worked in office all day. Willard, violet, Dad and Bessy came through here after dinner on way to Vancouver. we canned blackberry today.

Aug 7, Wed- nice weather started to load out a car of fruit for Sioux city. Elmer, bob and I and Englands went to Freeman’s mill at Colton in evening and bought $15 of lumber.

Aug 6, Tue- nice weather; Willard and vile, Dad and Bessy left for Murphy OR about 6 a.m. today to visits Bob Harts. Received first blackberries of season today.

Aug 5, Mon- nice weather; Elmer Hart and I went to Salem in the morning. When we got home Willard and Violet and Dad Hart were here also Joan and Paul. [note: Frank White Gillette's 40th birthday.

Aug 4, Sun- Stayed around the house all day.

Aug 3, Sat- Coudy today; Bob and Anna came home today from the coast and again left for Mr.Hood loop and Elmer went with them. Worked in the office all day.

Aug 2, Fri - Louis Le Doux and I called on Sid Gaskell and also seen Irvan about Burt labelings today. Elmer Hart came home with us this evening.

Aug1, 1935 Thu- Finished up shipping some orders out today.

Jul 31,1935  Wed -nice weather; we labeled up choice 1934 pack logan berries today and returned Silverton labeling machine.

Jul 30, Tue- nice weather; worked in warehouse all day labeling 1935 loganberries.

Jul 29, Mon- nice weather; we labeling on 1934 orders today.

Jul 28, Sun- Dite, Pauline, and Dad Hart and Elmer Hart came down today to visit Irene.

Jul 27, Sat- nice weather; worked in office all day.

Jul 26, Fri- nice weather; worked in office all day. Went with Mr. Nuchle and the boys up to homestead this evening in their camp trip.

Jul 25, Thu- worked in office all day.

Jul 24, Wed- nice weather; worked in office on packing costs.

Jul 23, Tue- nice weather; worked in office all morning and went to Salem in afternoon. Bought Irene a new green smock and got a new Goodyear tire.

Jul 22, Mon- hot weather; worked in office all day and it was very hot.

Jul 21, Sun- nice weather, but pretty hot. We stayed home all day. Bob went out with car in evening.

Jul 20, Sat- nice weather; worked around office all day. Mr. and Mrs Esser visited us in the evening. I bought our groceries after they left.

Jul 19, Fri- nice weather; worked in office all day. Watered the garden this evening. Joe Brown and wife called during evening.

Jul 18, Thu- nice weather; went to Eugene and bought Mr. Rinard (?) to set our cannery then took him to Swan Island and brought Bessy home with me.

Jul 17, Wed- nice weather; we finished last of loganberries this a.m. Leona did our washing today. Nails Bros paid me $25.

Jul 16, Tue- nice weather; went to Salem and called on Dr. Lynch and paid Dr. Marshall for X-ray and paid hospital bill and bought Irene home.

Jul 15, Mon- hot weather; took Irene to Dr. Lynch’s office. After X-ray picture was taken took her to Deaconess hospital where they put  a cast on her body.

Jul 14, Sun - hot weather; Barneys’ and Bob, Irene, Jean and I went to Knaggs bridge. Irene fell down and broke a bone in her back.

Jul 13, Sat- hot weather; worked in office all day.

Jul 12, Fri- real hot weather; Barney got car done at noon. I took I. Roseburg of NYCity to Silverton and Woodbury this afternoon in car. 

Jul 11, Thu- Worked in office all day and it was pretty hot weather.

Jul10, Wed. hot weather, Barney rebored our car and started fitting in pistons today.

Jul 9, Tue- Canned again today.

Jul 8, Mon- had fair(illegible) directors meeting this evening. Barney started to overhaul on car today.

Jul 7, Sun- cloudy

Jul 6, Sat- nice weather; canned loans, young and cherries today and got done at 10p.m.

Jul 5, Fri- nice weather; canned this afternoon again.

Jul 4, Thu.- Nice weather; Went to the parade, attended the ball game and rodeo in afternoon. Bob had Evelyn up here today to celebrate.

Jul 3, Wed- nice weather; could not get done at cannery until late tonight.

Jul 2, Tue- cloudy; I went up to Colton this evening and Nails Bros. paid me $50 on timber.

Jul 1,1935 Mon- cloudy; swapped wheels and tires at Derricks and Greens in Vancouver. Took Emer? Had around in Portland awhile and came home.

Jun 30, 1935 Sun - cloudy; Went to KOIN clock picnic and then went over to Vancouver and stayed all night at Bessie’s.

Jun 18, Tue- cloudy; We did not can today. I attended Logan agreement hearing at Salem. Called at Nails Bros. and they paid me $80 this evening on timber.

Jun 17, Mon- cloudy; had to can a few strawberries this evening.

Jun 16, Sun- Nice weather; Irene and I went to Donkey baseball game and seen Ruby Keeler and Holson in show :Go into your ? in evening at Geni?

Jun 15, - Sat- Canned a few strawberries the evening again. Irene and I went to town a little while in evening.

Jun 14, Fri- Cloudy; canned a few strawberries.

Jun 13 Thu- cloudy; worked in office all day. Canned a few strawberries in evening.

Jun 12, Wed- hot weather ; Mr Wimacht and I called on Mr. Iker this afternoon.

Jun 11, Tue- Cloudy; We started up and canned a few strawberries today.

Jun 10, Mon- Cloudy; worked in office all day. Had Directors meeting this evening which was OK.

Jun 9, Sun- nice weather; John Hassler and I went up to ranch and got log scales/ Bob took Evelyn Wick to show and then brought her over here awhile.

Jun 8, Sat- nice weather; Mr Weimacht was in a while today. Mrs Bockotts made out stock checks this afternoon.

Jun 7 Fri- nice weather; Called on Durhouse and Bates. Mr. Brennan and then returned home about noon.

Jun 6, Thurs - nice weather, but pretty hot; Mr Chappman called at the office today.

Jun 5, Wed - Was out to some of the strawberry growers during afternoon.

Jun 4, Tue.-Worked in office nearly all day but not many strawberries came in.

Jun 3, Mon- Nice weather; Called on Durham and Bates about Bond. Paid $40 on taxes. Called on folks and Fern Marshall and Elmer Hart and Waily boy was there. 

Jun 2, Sun - nice weather; Went to homestead today got check of $48 from Nails Bros’s.

Jun 1, 1935 Sat- We canned a few strawberries today.

Nicholas and May Lauby house in Mt. Angel. They lived with their 5 children down the street on the corner of Taylor and Birch. Tony and Joe were childhood friends of Bob and Jean Gillette.

The upstairs window was changed before 2000 when Jean Gillette Grant and her daughters Joyce and Lisa drove by the house. Source of this google image was taken in 2012. This is the house Frank W Gillette and Irene and their 3 kids lived in during the 30's.

Frank's occupation was listed as processor in the cannery business. It lists his wife Irene, children Robert, Jean, and Joyce. They rented their house for $15 a month. The house next door belonged to the Nicholas and Mary Lauby family and their 5 children Veronica, Anna, Anthony, Elizabeth and Joseph. As told by Jean Gillette Grant later in life, Joe Lauby was her best friend growing up and her brother was friends with Tony Lauby all were the same age.

Frank is listed as a Taxi driver for a cab company and family lives at 724 E 26th street in Kearney Nebraska. His son Robert was listed as 10 months old and born in Chicago Illinois in February of 1919. Census was taken in
